Participants in the Cultural Arts program at SpArc Services engage in a diverse array of programming. Here are some of the ongoing and past activities that we have enjoyed

Poetry Club Participants create community by working together and exercising their creativity to write a group poem. A past favorite was the elegy or historical poem, written by the group, inspired by “O Captain, My Captain” by Walt Whitman.

Dance Led by an instructor, we get moving and shake it out to popular jams. The dance classes are designed to be accessible and accommodate all abilities. We have also facilitated didactic classes on such styles as Spanish dancing and Irish dancing.

Visual Arts Led by an instructor, we have tried many forms of art and visual creations. We have tried new materials and media like oil pastels, clay, encaustics, weaving, and mixed media collage. These opportunities are great tools for self-expression and development of communication skills.

Film & Theater In addition to producing a play and performing in the Fringe Festival, we also offer activities in the performing arts and film. This includes making our own SpArc movie in partnership with the Philadelphia Film Society!

Community Engagement To the extent possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, we seek to engage with the broader arts and culture community for educational experiences. We have a wide network of community partners, from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Pennsylvania Ballet to Walnut Street Theater.
