Youth Leadership Forum
WHO: Young people between the ages of 14 and 24 with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their parents and caregivers.
WHEN: Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 10:30 AM TO 3:30 PM – Includes lunch
WHERE: Penn Houston Hall, 3417 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104
WHY: To promote self-advocacy and inclusion for youth with disabilities while providing the opportunity to network and develop skills that will be useful during transition from school into adulthood
Program:
1. Keynote Presentation on self-advocacy and leadership by Everett Diebler, Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living
2. Youth sessions with interactive presentation by self-advocates, professional regarding employment, setting personal goals, self-advocacy, and life beyond school
3. Parents and caregiver sessions on resources and information related to adult services, funding and benefits
4. Small group discussions among youth, parent/ caregivers, self-advocates and professionals
